I have been playing this game for a while now and have been struggling with this review, I keep going back and playing a bit more… What can I write about Bulletstorm? How can I describe this game to you?
Basically, Bulletstorm is bat sh*t crazy! Seriously, this game is insane. Massive amounts of swearing, including words and combinations of words I have never heard before (definitely worthy of its 18+ rating).
How crazy can it be you ask? This crazy:
Bulletstorm is a blast to play. It’s a fast paced, in your face, action shooter. Right from the beginning of the game you are made to shoot a guy in the head and then eject him into outer space. As far as the story goes, its kinda straight forward, you are Grayson Hunt, a mercenary, who gets betrayed by his employer and gets ditched on a hostile planet. A perfect place for you to run around and kick ass. You fight your way through a fairly linear world destroying everything in your way, simple as that.
Bulletstorm employs a very cool new gameplay mechanic that rewards you for killing your enemies in creative ways. The various ways that you kill people translate into skill points. Skill points are used to upgrade weapons, buy new ammo and other stuff. Pretty straight forward but a huge amount of fun. Oh and you can kick people – which is a really effective way to send them to the afterlife 🙂
Bulletstorm is undeniably beautiful. EA games and People can fly studios have done an excellent job of squeezing every bit of eye candy out of Unreal engine 3. It certainly shows. Throughout the game you play through various breathtaking environments, all polished right down to the last detail. Even the explosions and special effects are like something out of a Michael Bay film. Check out some of the screenshots below and you will see what I mean:
Bulletstorm is a kick ass game. Not a lot of story, not a lot of thinking, but if you are looking for a game to take your mind off work, kick back and shoot stuff, then this game is for you. However the game is very well made with excellent graphics and fun gameplay making it not just another mindless shooter. If this sounds even remotely cool to you, you won’t regret picking up a copy of this game.
