Thief is one of the original sneak and stab style games that originally debuted in 1998. A brand new Thief has just been announced and we have some leaked screenshots as well.
You will be forgiven for thinking that Thief looks and sounds a lot like Dishonored, it does. Everything from the steampunk city to the covert assassinations. It’s no secret that Dishonored was inspired by Thief, we will have to wait and see if the original will be able to assert itself over it’s younger cousin. I like the more realistic feel in the screenshots with a bit more realisim than in Dishonored and seeing it come alive on next gen consoles and PC’s will be pretty damn awesome.
The game’s main character, Garrett looks pretty badass and is equipped with a range of weapons and tools which will include a club, bow, grappling hook, lockpicks, and specialty arrows that can put out flames or expel smoke. Yep, bows and arrows are all the rage at the moment and will good reason, they are awesome. Garrett’s bow in these screenshots looks killer.
The game will be primarily played in first-person and will center around a mechanic called Focus. This operates like a “detective mode,” highlighting walls you can climb, lights to extinguish and fingerprints that need scrutinising You can also trigger Focus to slow down time while pickpocketing. As you accumulate Focus you’ll gain “attack points” that can be used for emergency escapes. Using one attack point on an enemy’s chest will allows you to shove them out of the way, while using more will allow for more debilitating maneuvers.
We are undoubtedly excited about the new Thief, watch this space for more info.
