Smiling is always the perfect pose! You can play around with different smiles, of course. A closed-mouth coy smile can be great if you are shy about your teeth, and a wide, teethy grin can be just as flattering. No matter what, a smile is one of the most appreciated and charming expressions you can wear.
Tip: This is one of best tricks out there! Use your tongue – by pressing your tongue on the roof of your mouth while smiling is an effective way to help avoid the dreaded double chin, by lengthening your neck and your jawline.
The most important thing to remember is, never fake it! It can be hard to make sure your expression looks authentic, so try to make it look real by snapping a selfie when you’re feeling a particular emotion, like happiness.
The “Two-Handed” Selfie
When you’re taking a selfie, you generally have two options:
- You can hold the camera with one hand, or;
- You can hold the camera two hands.
If you are using both hands, you generally want your arms to frame your selfie, while being careful not to cover up the lens.
Tip: Make sure you’ve shaved under your arms.
The “Cleavage” Selfie
While the selfie is all about your face, it is sometimes appropriate to include your other features.
If you are feeling particularly sexy try angling the camera slightly above yourself and taking a snapshot of your face and chest, which will highlight your cleavage.

The “Full-Length” Selfie
Dying to show off your amazing outfit or your body after a tough work-out? You will need a full-length mirror for this one. This time, your face is no longer the focus of the photo.
Take these shots in a clutter-free space. The photo should focus completely on your figure, not on random objects in the background.
You can appear slimmer by turning your hip to the same side you are holding your phone in. Your opposite shoulder should come forward a bit, and your free arm should rest on your hip. Lean your chest forward naturally and cross your ankles, which elongates your legs.
The “Feet” Selfie
Even though the selfie is all about your face, you can still classify snapping a pic of your feet as a selfie, especially if you want to show off your new pair of shoes or your expensive carpet.
Aim the camera straight down. The edge of the frame should land somewhere on your thighs, fairly close to your hips. This angle makes your legs look as long as possible.

The “Lying Down” Selfie
Sometimes it can look really cool when you are lying down and you are taking a selfie from above.
If you are snapping a pic of your face from straight above, avoid covering your face with your arms by relaxing your elbows sideways.
If you want to include your body, try lying on your side, propping yourself up with your elbow and placing your top leg slightly in front of you.
The “In-Water” Selfie
This could be a very creative idea and can have great result in achieving selfie superstardom, but be careful not to drop your phone/camera in the water.
Try snapping a pic of you floating on your back in the pool or relaxing in a hot bubble bath.
