A while back, Donald Glover started the #Donald4SpiderMan Twitter campaign for the Spider-Man role that was eventually given to Andrew Garfield.

Finally Glover’s dreams will come true as he is set to voice Miles Morales, the Ultimate Universe version of Spider-Man, in Ultimate Spiderman: Web Warriors.  In this new version Peter Parker was finally defeated by the Green Goblin and Miles Morales emerges as the new Spider-Man.

“This character carries on the legacy of Peter Parker, a Spider-Man who will have a completely different relationship to the world,” the creators say.

But don’t expect Glover to give up on his dream to become Spider-Man for the silver screens:

“I still have hopes to do something like that one day,” Glover told USA Today. “I don’t look at this as second place. Spider-Man, he’s such an icon — you have to do something with him.”

What truly makes Glover’s casting special for this role, is the fact that Miles Morales was inspired by Glover and President Obama. This version’s Spidey is African-American (he has a an African-American father and a Hispanic mother), which the creators describe as “long overdue”.
