The Basic Plot

In the midst of war, the hammer Mjolnir has judged Odison unworthy, which causes the God of Thunder to become vulnerable and weak.

A mystery woman takes over Mjolnir as well as the name. Readers will be kept in the dark regarding the identity of the new Thor and the identity of the character will only be revealed later on. Aaron has promised that readers will not be disappointed in her identity as she is strong in her own right.

In Aaron’s version, Asgardia, the home of the gods, is ruled by goddesses referrred to as All-Mothers. Readers might expect the theme of the battle of the sexes to run through-out the series.

Why the Change?

Aaron’s take on the Thor series has been an evolution from the original 1962 version. Aaron stated that:

I knew that I wanted it to be a woman. Thor has been in publication since ’62, and in all those years we’ve rarely seen a woman pick up the hammer.

Further, Aaron focusses heavily on Thor’s worthiness, whose position as the God of Thunder was always reliant on his ability to yield the powers of the hammer.

“The plan was always to get to the point where the Thor that we knew had become unworthy,” he said.
