Queen Elizabeth II sent out her very first personal tweet while opening Information Age, a new telecommunications gallery at London’s Science Museum.
The tweet was sent out to 724 000 followers from the twitter handle @BritishMonarchy and read:
It is a pleasure to open the Information Age exhibition today at the @ScienceMuseum and I hope people will enjoy visiting. Elizabeth R.
Information Age features over 800 exhibitions and depicts how technology and science have influenced how people communicate over the last 200 years. Based on this theme of transformation, the Queen launched the gallery by sending out her first personal tweet instead of the usual unveiling of a plague, which, in itself ,is a technological milestone.
Other Technological Milestones for the Queen

In 1976 the Queen was the first monarch to send an email during a visit to an Army base. The Queen’s own website went life in 1997 while visiting Kingsbury High School in London
The queen has launched her own YouTube channel to promote the British monarchy and, in 2008, she personally uploaded a video while visiting Google London.
