Texting while driving

Texting while driving is bad. Texting in the cinema is bad. Advertising agency, Ogilvy Beijing have combined these two texting no-no’s in a VW ad to demonstrate the dangers of texting while driving.

Theater-goers in Hong Kong were instructed to keep their phones on and to not switch to silent when visiting the cinema. The ad was then played before the movie, which start off with a first-person perspective of starting a car and then driving on a quiet road. A location-based broadcaster was then used to send text messages to the audience while the ad was still playing.

You can probably guess what happens next. the ad ended with “mobile use is now the leading cause of death behind the wheel.” While this statistic isn’t true everywhere, texting while driving or using your phone in any way while driving is extremely dangerous.
