DStv announced that its Explora customers will soon have access to a variety of online services. The new service will include on-the-go recording and a new online DStv Catch Up Plus service.
How It Will Work
Any DStv Explora customer can use remote recording, [but] DStv Catch Up Plus is exclusively available to DStv premium customers.
Catch Up Plus will allow users to connect their Explora to the internet either directly by Ethernet cable or using a new DStv Wifi Connector, which will be available in stores from 18 November 2014 for R399.
Once connected you will gain access to 300 movie and series titles on top of about 300 existing titles, pushed to your PVR via satellite. Users will need to download a movie or a series to their PVRs before being able to watch, as internet speeds aren’t fast enough to accommodate instant downloading or streaming. DStv plans to roll-out streaming in 2015.
An app, called DStv Now, will be launched this December which will give DStv Premium users the ability to remotely record to their PVRs and will give them access to movies and series as well as exclusive content via DStv Catch Up Plus, all on their smartphones or tablets.
