Instagram has passed the 300 million users mark according to CEO Kevin Systrom. These users are responsible for uploading about 70 million photos and videos daily.
Back in 2012, when Instagram was acquired by Facebook for $1 billion, the photo-sharing site had about 30 million users. But 2 years later and Instagram has grown to over 300 million users, which means it is 10 x bigger and has even surpassed Twitter. These numbers come as no surprise, with Facebook having about 1.35 billion users as well as 600 million WhatsApp users.
With the platform growing so fast, it also announced that it will be verifying accounts (like Twitter) and deleting spam and fake accounts to ensure that the platform continues to show growth and stay relevant.
