It has been confirmed that Simon Pegg is set to co-write Star Trek 3.
Pegg will be reprising his role as the Enterprise’s chief engineer Montgomery “Scotty” Scott in Star Trek 3, but will also be taking the writer’s seat together with Doug Jung (Confidence and Dark Blue).
Star Trek 3 has had its fair share of pre-production set backs. First J.J. Abrams (director of Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness) left the franchise to direct Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Then, the replacement director, Robert Orci, was removed as director to producer because the studio was worried about him making his directorial debut. When Orci was removed as director the writers, John D. Payne and Patrick McKay, were replaced by Pegg and Jung. Director of Fast and the Furious, Justin Lin is now set to direct Star Trek 3.
Star Trek 3 will form part of the Star Trek franchise’s 50th anniversary, which aired for the first time in September 1966. So we can expect the movie to be released in June next year.
Simon Pegg has starred in and written scripts for movies like Hot Fuzz, Run Fatboy Run, Paul and, most notably,Shaun of the Dead. Based on his previous gigs fans can probably expect a lot of Pegg’s ridiculously funny humour running through the script.
Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quiton and Anton Yelchin are all line-up to reprise their previous roles in Star Trek 3 and rumour has it that William Shatner will also be reprising his iconic role as Captain James.
