We reviewed the standard Razer Blackwidow Ultimate keyboard last year but have just received the Chroma edition from the guys at Razer. Let’s have a look at this new colourful version of the poplular mechanical keyboard.
The Razer Blackwidow Ultimate Chroma edition is identical to the standard edition in pretty much every way. You still get the fantastic mechanical keys with Razer’s unique switch system as well as the angular fighter jet design that we really love. The keyboard has a great feel to it with keys that are higher than the average limiting missed keystrokes and improving accuracy. Interestingly this has a good effect on typing as well.
If you have a look through the specifications you will see the makings of an excellent keyboard:
- Razer™ Mechanical Switches with 50g actuation force
- 60 million keystroke life span
- Razer Synapse enabled
- 10 key roll-over anti-ghosting
- Fully programmable keys with on-the-fly macro recording
- 5 additional dedicated macro keys
- Audio-out/mic-in jacks
- USB pass-through
- 1000Hz Ultrapolling
- Braided fiber cable
- Approximate size: 475mm/18.72” (Width) x 171mm/6.74” (Height) x 39mm/1.54” (Depth)
- Approximate weight: 1500g/3.31lbs
The main reason for opting for the Chroma edition over the standard is the Chroma lighting effects. This keyboard features advanced backlighting with 16.8 million customisable colour options as seen on all the Razer Chroma Series products.
Coupled with the Razer Synapse 2.0 software this system gives you near limitless lighting options across the keyboard with any combination of colours, patterns and lighting effects. If you are a fan of colour customisation pairing these devices along with you rig and desktop wallpaper can create some really cool effects.
If you are looking for a top end gaming keyboard and are partial towards the mechanical key mechanism then the Razer Blackwidow ultimate is a great keyboard to consider. As to choosing between the standard or the Chroma edition, go for the Chroma, the extra customisation is fun and at the very worst you could default it to have the same Razer green as the standard edition.
If you are looking for more customisation through macro keys for MMO gaming then there are other keyboards that you will find more useful but for the majority of gamers along with Razer’s software that allows you to customise every key, the Blackwidow Ultimate is a very solid board.
