Our beloved Disney princesses have been capturing our hearts (and taking our money) since Snow White first appeared in the 1930s Snow White And The seven Dwarfs. There are currently eleven official Disney princess, including Aurora (Sleeping Beauty), Belle (Beauty and the Beast), Jasmine (Aladin), Tiana (Princess and the Frog) and Pocahontas.

All of these beloved beauties are presented in a fictional Disney world, with references from history and fairy tales. Buzzfeed decided to delve into what historically accurate Disney princesses would’ve looked like and the results are truly mesmerising. One thing is for sure, historically accurate Disney princesses were dressed way more conservatively than the cartoons they inspired (except for Pocahontas).

Snow White

Historically Accurate Disney Princesses Snow White 2

Snow White was the first fairytale princess from Disney and made her debut in 1937. But based on hints from the movie, Snow White and her seven little dudes were actually living in the 1500s in Germany. This is what Snow White would’ve looked like if she was historically accurate:

To determine from what era and which area this snoozing babe came from, they looked at certain aspects of the film. Certain main clues from Disney’s Sleeping Beauty were used to determine that Aurora was from the 1300s, living in England. This is what Aurora would’ve looked like in 14th century England:

After the guys at Buzzfeed analysed Belle and Beast‘s epic love story in Disney’s 1991 Beauty and the Beast they determined that beautiful Belle most likely lived in France in the 1700s. This is what Belle would’ve looked like in 18th century France:

Jasmine 2

It turns out Jasmine is actually from 300 AD, which means Aladin took place during the pre-Islamic period in the Arabian Penisula. This means that Jasmine would’ve actually looked something like this if she was historically accurate:

Pocahontas

Pocahontas graced our screens in 1995 in Disney’s Pocahontas movie. This one was easy enough to determine because it is a well-known fact that John Smith landed in Virginia, USA in the 1600s. But we didn’t know that this is what Pocahontas would’ve looked like back then:

Tiana 1

Based on Disney’s Princess and the Frog, Tiana was living in the 1920s in New Orleans, USA. This is what Tiana would’ve looked like back in the swinging 1920s:
