Last week kykNET told the actors and producers of Villa Rosa that production on the show will be discontinued. The rest of this season will be filmed until August 2015, after which production will be finalised. But fans of the show will be able to enjoy it until 31 March 2016, so there is plenty of time to say your goodbyes. kykNET also announced that viewers can look forward to a brand new, locally produced series from April 2016.
Villa Rosa was the first ever show kykNET made and produced. The show first aired in October 2004 and was initially only aired on Mondays and now airs on the popular Afrikaans channel from Mondays – Thursdays at 18:30. The Afrikaans show centres around a guest house and the lives of all the guests and employees. Villa Rosa has been one of kykNET’s most popular shows for 11 years and celebrated its 2 000th episode in November 2014 and many of the original cast members are still on the show. Last year one of the shows most hated villains, Astrid, was written-out of Villa Rosa following the departure of actress, Therese Benade.
This is just one of many recent cancellations and shifts happening at kykNET. The popular Afrikaans channel recently also announced that the weekly breakfast show Dagbreek (which was also one of kykNET’s most popular shows) will also be cancelled after only two years on air. Villa Rosa being cancelled leaves Binnelanders as the only paid-for Afrikaans series in South Africa.
