Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick first launched NSYNC in 1995. Although the mega-boyband was formed in the mid-90s , NSYNC only reached true success in 2000 with their hit single, Bye Bye Bye. In 2004, Justin Timberlake broke away from the boyband and became a solo artist, but we will always remember him as “the guy with the noodle hair” from NSYNC. The band regrouped for a performance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, but have no intention of getting back together in the future.
TLC, consisting of Tione “T-Boz” Watkins, Rozanda “Chilli” Thomas and Lisa “Left Eye” Lopez, became a favourite for almost every 90s girl when they released their hit single, No Scrubs, in 1999. Marshall Mathers, aka Eminem, first became popular after Dr. Dre heard a demo tape of him rapping and saying that “When Jimmy played [his demo tape], I said, ‘Find him. Now‘”. Dr. Dre took him under his wing and every 90s girl started rapping The Real Slim Shady in 1999.
4. Freddie Prinze Jr.
Every 90s girl fell head over heels for Freddie Prinze Jr. after he portrayed Ray Bronson in the 1997 movie, I Know What You Did Last Summer. He starred in other movies like She’s All That, Boys And Girls and Head Over Heels.
5. Britney Spears
The world took immediate notice of Britney Spears when she appeared in her first music video in a schoolgirl outfit, with pig tails. …Baby One More Time was released back in 1998 (we know you can still remember the lyrics and dance moves today). 6. Dawson’s Creek
Whenever you heard I don’t wanna wait by Paula Cole playing on the TV you would run to watch Dawson and his pals, Pacey, Joey and Jen struggle with being teenagers. Every 90s girl either had a crush on James van der Beek or Joshua Jackson. And, you either hated Joey or you hated Jen and friendships were destroyed if you weren’t rooting for the same person. The show first aired in 1998 and ran for 6 seasons until it ended in 2003.
Even though you probably only know one of his songs, Thong, no 90s girl’s room would’ve been completed without a poster of this short, but ripped rapper. Thong came out in 1998 and many girls fell for Sisqó’s over the top style and sexy lyrics.
8. The Cranberries
Whenever any 90s girl broke up with her boyfriend she would reach for her walkman and The Cranberries CD. This Irish alternative rock band first became successful in 1994 and are responsible for popular hits like Linger and Zombie. In 1997 you were probably not old enough to watch Titanic, which was rated 13. But it was the 90s and our parents let us do stuff that could get them arrested today. This epic movie from director James Cameron was one of the first time girls took notice of the ever-so-charming Leo DiCaprio.
This 1995 movie starring Alicia Silverstone and the late Brittany Murphy was a major favourite amongst girls in the 90s. Everyone wanted to live in a fabulous house in Beverley Hills, drive expensive cars, have designer clothes and act like grown-ups when they’re supposed to be sixteen.
