iOS 8.3 is here and it brought an array of new updates and additions to our iPhones.

One of the biggest updates was to the emoji keyboard, which now allows you to choose between a variation of colours for your emojis. Another update to the emoji keyboard is the addition of the new Apple Watch and Mac. All that is great, but we have to admit that we were pretty disappointed not to see the Vulcan salute emoji, especially since Leonard Nimoy’s sad passing in March 2015.
But we’ve got great news for you, you can add Spock’s iconic Vulcan salute as an emoji to your keyboard by following these easy steps:
- You need to update your iPhone with iOS 8.3;
- Once updated, you need to copy the emoji from this Tweet (remember: if you aren’t able to see the emoji in the Tweet then you haven’t updated to iOS 8.3);
- Go to Settings > Keyboards > Shortcuts > Add a shortcut (Tap the + at the top right) > Paste the copied emoji by double tapping next to Phrase > Enter a shortcut below (an obvious choice would be “llap“) > Save.
Now you can use the iconic Vulcan salute in your day-to-day conversations. The person you are messaging will also need to have updated to iOS 8.3 to be able to be able to see the Vulcan salute emoji.
