Last week the world lost Christopher Lee. In his career spanning nearly 70 years he has recorded numerous heavy metal albums, is an acclaimed opera singer, he has been knighted, he has won numerous awards, etc. You get the picture – the man was a legend! Here are our 5 favourite Christopher Lee characters throughout the years:
As the only cast member of the Lord of the Rings movies to have met JRR Tolkien in person, Christopher Lee really deserved a role in Peter Jackson’s adaptation of the famous novels. However, Lee originally auditioned for Gandalf, but Jackson saw him as Saruman.
2. Count Dooku
Count Dooku is another one of our favourite Christopher Lee characters.
Lee was basically one of the oldest cast members for both Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, but he completely kicked ass. Despite his advanced age, Lee managed to turn Count Dooku into one of the most iconic Star Wars villains yet.
3. Lord Summerisle
Lee portrayed Lord Summerisle in the 1973 movie, The Wicker Man. Lee has stated that this was one of his favourite characters to portray.
4. Count Dracula
Lee gave a hauntingly awesome performance as Count Dracula in the 1958 movie, Horror of Dracula. We can’t believe this was one of the first characters Lee portrayed because he delivered a very intense and controlled performance that started a career of many more memorable characters.
5. Frankenstein’s Creature
The 1957 movie, The Curse of Frankenstein saw Lee portray the role of Frankenstein’s Creature.
