We have come a long way since the original iPad; the bulky, retina and camera free tablet that revolutionised the world. Let’s take a stroll down hardware lane and remember how it changed the way we live our lives.

Apple iPad

iPad Air 2 Tablet

Originally released back in 2010, the iPad was the first mainstream tablet to hit the market. Powered by Apple’s A4 processor, the device was an instant success.

The iPad has received some notable makeovers over the last few years, going from its bulky first generation entry to the smallest of them all, the iPad Air 2. Some of these internal tweaks are not that drastic if you come to think of it, especially the cameras, with the latest tablet still shipping with the old 1.2 MP camera seen in the 3rd generation iPad.

Sony Xperia Tablet

Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet

After Apple’s release of the iPad, it didn’t take a scientist to know that the other big giants would be rolling out their tablets in the coming years. Sony released their first Xperia tab back in 2012 and has recently released the Xperia Z4.

Samsung Galaxy Tab

Galaxy Tablet

Third in the tablet giant race is Samsung with their Galaxy Tab. The Galaxy Tab was first introduced to the world back in September 2010. Since then the Galaxy Tab has seen numerous releases in 7.7, 8.9, and 10.1 inch, all improving in specs from the previous releases.

As you can see tablets have evolved from their camera-free, low resolution models, to super HD screens, with 8.1MP cameras. It is insane how, in the short space of 5 years we have reached such a new level of technology where our desktops are our tablets and our tablets are our smartphones. There is so much more to come in the future and we can’t wait.
