Marvel comic books have been the inspiration for movies, TV shows, figurines, video games, etc. for more than 70 years. Now Marvel’s first video game inspired comic will see the trend being reversed.

Video Game Inspired comic

Walt Disney owned Marvel will release a comic series that is inspired and was created around the Contest of Champions video game created by Kabam. The storyline of popular superheroes like Spider-Man and Captain America will feature in Marvel’s first video game inspired comic in an all-new universe feature a mysterious villain dubbed The Collector. Marvel’s Creative Director, Bill Rosemann explains that:

On the comic book side, this book has to be as good and bar shattering as the game. We have to define what a comic is, based on game.

Contest of Champions is a free-to-play mobile fighting game which was released in 2014 for iOS and Android. The game is set in the Marvel universe, including The Avengers, Thunderbolts, X-Men and Guardians of the Galaxy. The game is described by Kabam’s Creative Director, Cuz Perry as a:

One vs. one, arcade-style fighting game with multiplayer as well as RPG elements with a quest/story mode where you’re pitted against a wide range of heroes and villains from the Marvel Universe.
