Nintendo’s president, Satoru Iwata, passed away at the early age of 55. Nintendo released an official statement that read:
Nintendo Co., Ltd. deeply regrets to announce that President Satoru Iwata passed away on July 11, 2015 due to a bile duct growth.
Iwata skipped E3 this year due to his poor health and afterwards underwent surgery to remove a bile duct growth.
Iwata was responsible for dozens of Nintendo smash hits like Balloon Fight and Earthbound. He become Director of the company in 2000, and in 2002 was appointed as the fourth president. He was also the king of the Nintendo Direct events.
