There are smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, penis wearables and so many more gadgets in the personal device market. Now, fashion designer Ralph Lauren is integrating personal tech into fashion with a smartshirt, dubbed PoloTech.
Ralph Lauren saw that there was one flaw when it comes to activity trackers – you have to add some form of band or watch or strap onto your body in order for data to be collected. What the designer aims to do with this new smartshirt is have all of your tracking needs integrated right into your clothing.
With the PoloTech, bio-sensing silver fibres are woven directly into the core of the shirt which means you only need to wear the shirt to be able to track your physical activity and collect data without the need to add anything extra to your outfit. The fibres are also good for blood circulation and helps with muscle recovery. There is a side box that slips onto the shirt which collects data for up to 30 hours straight.
The smartshirt will be able to provide real-time and comprehensive biometric data to the companion app, which includes:
- Heart rate
- Movement intensity
- Physical stress
- Distance travelled
- Calories burned
No news yet as to when it will be released or how much it will cost, but it probably won’t come cheap.
