If you think the gaming industry is only for nerds, you’re wrong. Gaming is a multi billion Dollar industry worldwide.Gaming is also exceptionally popular in South Africa, generating more than 2 billion Rand in 2014! Game designer Jane McGonigal (Reality is Broken) reported that 99% of boys under the age of 18 play video games on a regular basis. The figure for girls under the age of 18 who play video games regularly is just slightly behind that of boys at 94%, proving that gaming is more popular than most people think. McGonigal also believes that the stigma surrounding video games are untrue and actually thinks that video games help build problem-solving skills, enhances learning abilities, creates strong social bonds and improves the general quality of life.
