The Force is strong with DStv as Channel24 reported that it will be launching a pop up DStv Star Wars channel.

The M-Net Movies pop-up channel will be airing from 31 August 2015 until 13 September 2015 and will be showcasing all of the six Star Wars movies as well as other cool Star Wars programming. The DStv Star Wars channel will be available to DStv Premium subscribers on DStv channel 109.

The channel will air a daily movie at 19:30, which movie will be repeated the next day at 06:00. The movies will be shown in the original order, starting with the 1977 movie, Episode IV: A New Hope, ending with Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. On Sundays the channel will be running a full movie omnibus in which all six movies will be aired in order. In between the six movies, the channel will air animated features and shows, short films, documentaries, featurettes and more with M-Net South Africa’s CEO, Yolisa Phahle telling Channel24 that:

This is a great coup for us. Creating a movie channel dedicated to Star Wars is an initiative that Star Wars fans will enjoy, but we also hope to introduce this iconic programming to a new audience.

Pop-up channels are currently all the rage worldwide and our [DStv Star Wars channel] once again shows that we continue to align ourselves with the hottest trends and biggest brands whilst embracing the future of visual entertainment.

Christine Service, the senior vice president and manager for The Walt Disney Company in Africa seems to share Phahle’s sentiment telling Channel24 that:

We are thrilled to be bringing Star Wars, one of the greatest family entertainment franchises of all time, to audiences in this first-for-Africa television event with DStv. This is a perfect opportunity for families to experience some of the world’s most unforgettable characters and stories to screens across the continent.

This new pop-up channel comes a few months before the new instalment in the Star Wars movies franchise, The Force Awakens, premiers in December 2015. This DStv Star Wars channel will be a great way for fans to refresh their memories and for newbies to get to know the amazing Star Wars universe filled with Jedi, weapons, planes, spaceships, cool vehicles, cool aliens and just generally awesome space stuff.
