Back in 2010 director Danny Boyle made it clear that Trainspotting 2 won’t be happening any time soon as he wasn’t a massive fan of Irvine Welsh’s 2002 sequel Porno, saying:

It’s not a great book

However, Boyle saw potential and decided to work on a script (for 5 years) and now it seems like the long-awaited sequel might happen. Not only is Danny Boyle returning to direct but he also commissioned original screenwriter, John Hodge, to hash out the story, calling it “terrific“. The good news for fans doesn’t stop there – Boyle confirmed that:

[A]ll the four main actors want to come back and do it. Now it’s only a matter of getting all their schedules together which is complicated by two of them doing American TV series.

That means that we might be seeing Ewan McGregor again as Renton, Ewen Bremner as Spud, Jonny Lee Miller as Sick Boy, Robert Carlyle as Begbie and Kevin McKidd as Tommy.

In Welsh’s Porno, the story centres around the lives of the original characters again but a decade later. 10 years later and Renton owns a club, Spud wants to kill himself, Begbie is out for someone who is sending him gay porn and Sick Boy is making some homosexual porn.

It’s going to be interesting to see what Boyle and Hodge come up with, until then check out the trailer for the original 1996 movie and take a trip down memory lane:
