The Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin, or IFA 2015 for short, is currently underway and is the oldest and biggest tech and gadgets trade show in Europe. Every year, since 1924, tech companies gather in Berlin to showcase their latest products and gadgets. The show usually features the best and newest TVs, home entertainment kit, cameras, smartphones, smartwatches, and much more. Day one of IFA 2015 started off with a bang, with keynotes from Microsoft and Samsung really standing out for us:
Microsoft mostly spoke about Windows 10 and unveiled some intriguing new tech products, with Nick Parker opening the keynote:
At Microsoft our mission is to empower every person on the planet to achieve more. When we talk about a mobile-first cloud-first world we don’t just talk about the device, we talk about the mobility of the experience.
Microsoft then went on to rehash some numbers it has already shared:
- 1.5 billion Windows users;
- 75 million devices running Windows 10 in the first month;
- 600 million PCs are 4 years old;
- 122+ years of Xbox streamed to Windows 10 PCs; and
- 192 countries in the world running Windows 10.
Then Microsoft did a general recap of Windows 10. If you’re already a Windows 10 users then none of this would’ve been new news, and if you’re still new to the system check out our hands-on here. It is worthy to note that Microsoft Product Manager, Bryan Rodgers, claims that “Windows 10 is the safest and most secure version ever”.
Some our favourite new products:
- The super cheap (about R2 500.00) Acer Aspire One Cloudbook;
- Asus’ Zen AiO S which has 4K video support;
- Asus Rog G752, which is a gaming notebook, with Rodgers claiming that this is a “pretty sick PC to do your gaming on”.
The South Korean company stole the show at IFA 2015 day one by unveiling the Gear S2. The new smartwatch from Samsung has a AMOLED display, 250mAh battery, IP68 certified dust and water resistance and runs Samsung’s Tizen OS. The Gear s2 comes in 3 models:
- The standard Gear s2;
- The Gear S2 Classice;
- The Gear S2 3G.
SleepSense is another awesome product Samsung unveiled at day one of the IFA 2015. SleepSense is a sleep tracker which turns off lights, TVs and other electronics when it senses that you’re snoozing.
