Apple held its September event last night in San Francisco’s legendary Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, with thousands of attendees waiting anxiously for the next big thing in Apple tech. Well, Apple didn’t disappoint and one of its biggest reveals of the night has got to be the long-rumoured iPad Pro.
The iPad Pro is the biggest and most powerful iPad to date. The latest tablet looks like a brand new piece of tech as it boasts a 12.9″ display, 4 stereo speaker, and for the first time in the iPad series, a dedicated stylus dubbed the Apple Pencil.
The device has a 2732×2048 display that will make full use of iOS 9 and its split-screen multitasking and picture in picture feature. Packed with an A9X 3rd generation 64-bit chip, and 2GB of RAM, the iPad Pro only weighs 1.75lb and is 6.9mm thick.
The iPad Pro has the most advanced Retina display Apple’s ever made. The 12.9″ screen offers 78 percent more display area than that of iPad Air 2. Under the glass lie a revamped Multi‑Touch subsystem and 5.6 million pixels, which makes it the highest-resolution display of any iOS device. That extreme resolution, along with remarkably lifelike colours and deeper blacks, makes everything from photo editing to intense 3D games more vivid and deeply engaging.
The device will ship in November, in models of 32 GB – $799, 64GB – $949, 128GB – $1079.
Going hand in hand with the iPad Pro, the Apple Pencil will be the stylus that will change the way you interact with your tablet. It runs on a battery that chargers using the Lightning connector on you iPad, and fits perfectly in your hand as you draw, navigate, make spreadsheets, and even take notes. It has about 12 hours of battery life, with just 15 seconds of charging providing enough charge for half-an-hour of use.
Apple seems really keen on changing and improving your iPad experience and has introduced a dedicated keyboard specifically designed for the bigger iPad Pro. It’s easily foldable and pairs instantly with the new iPad. The top layer of the Smart Keyboard is made from a sheet of highly durable custom-woven fabric that’s laser ablated to form the shape of each key. The fabric also provides the spring-like tension for each key, eliminating the need for conventional mechanisms. So the Smart Keyboard is just 4 mm thin while providing the accuracy, stability, and satisfying key feel you’d expect. The Smart Keyboard is also conveniently coated in a water‑ and stain‑resistant finish.
