Facebook has been rolling out its auto-play video feature on timelines across the world and now users even have the ability to make Facebook video profile pictures. Facebook announced that it will be rolling out some cool new updates for mobile users and one of our favourites is the ability to set your profile picture as a short, looping video.

The iOS Facebook app update has been slowly rolling out, but at the time of writing this, the update wasn’t available in SA yet with this message showing up when you tap to change your profile picture in the iOS app:

With the new update, Facebook users will see Facebook profile pictures centred in the middle of the screen instead of on the left top corner.

Facebook decided to give users this ability after the massive success of its Celebrate Pride filter which more than 26 million users used, with Facebook explaining that:

[I]t was more apparent than ever that people use their profile picture to show who they are— even if it’s just for a moment in time. Profile pictures are not just static portraits. They represent what’s going on in your life right now and what’s important to you, and we want to give people the tools to better express themselves in this way.

Part of the update includes the ability to set temporary Facebook profile pictures that revert back to your original profile picture after a set time. This will allow you to, for instance, show your support for a cause through changing your profile picture for a week to rase awareness and then revert back to your normal Facebook profile picture once the campaign is over.
