We only recently learned that the Power Rangers will be getting a reboot in a movie adaptation being released by Lionsgate and now the first, (and my personal favourite) cast member has been revealed. The studio confirmed that Naomi Scott (The Martian) will be portraying the role of Kimberly Ann Hart, aka the Pink Power Ranger.

The screenplay was written by Zack and Ashley Miller who worked on screenplays for mega movies like X-Men: First Class and Thor and they describe the reboot to be “a modern reinvention of the long-running franchise“. And what a long run it has been; Haim Saban’s The Power Rangers originally appeared in 1993 when Mighty Morphin Power Rangers debuted. The franchise has gone through many changes over the years, sometimes not quite hitting the mark like Power Rangers Wild Force to name one. On top of that, the 1995 and 1997 movies, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie and Turbo: A Power Ranger Movie weren’t received well.  But it has remained a favourite regardless and the franchise has garnered many devoted fans over the years, so the new reboot is sure to be scrutinised relentlessly.

The reboot will be directed by Dean Isrealite and will premier sometime in 2017. Until then check out the sneak peek for the latest TV series set to premier on Nickelodeon later this year, entitled Power Rangers Dino Charge:
