After 14 years of blowing stuff up, popular Discovery channel show, MythBusters is coming to an end as confirmed by EW. We’re really sad to see Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman go after watching them for 248 episodes, conducting nearly 3 000 experiments. The 14th and final season will air next year, truly ending an era. MythBusters first exploded onto our screens in 2003 and has seen some pretty epic moments.

Savage and Hyneman explained that the choice came naturally after the show’s ratings started slipping. Savage even stated that it was his “greatest fear that MythBusters would just stop and we wouldn’t be able to do proper final episodes“. Savage confirmed that the team had been expecting the show to come to an end a few years ago:

Every show has its bell curve. We’re cognisant of our ratings. It’s not like they were terrible but we could see them changing. Three or four years ago we started wondering more if we were going to be renewed. It’s not like it’s unexpected. We felt like we’ve had really strong material for the whole run. It’s been 14 years and it’s just time. We want to go out on a strong point. We’ve tried to go as deeply as possible into the things we’re doing, and gave them the respect and care they deserve.

So we can only expect the best from this final season of the epic show about science, tech, gaming, logic, human behaviour, explosion, experiments, robots and general awesomeness. The ratings for the final season are sure to be off the charts especially because it might be the last time these two guys work together as they aren’t pals and have always maintained that they only work together. Hyneman explains that they’ve known each other for 25 years and have never spent any alone time together out of their own accord and only manage to “tolerate each other”.

The M7 Build Team Team, consisting of Kari Byron, Tory Belleci and Grant Imahara, made their exit a while back already to pursue their own things.
