We’re all cheering on South African comedian, Trevor Noah, as he is embarking on his new gig as the host of the popular The Daily Show in the US. He dropped by mega-celebrity, Ellen DeGeneres’s talk show to chat about his new role, what it was like to grow up in South Africa, his love for rollercoasters and more.

He obviously charmed the crowd and had some funny moments. We loved when he was telling Ellen that his mother couldn’t hold his hand in public and he thought it was not because of Apartheid, but because “she’s independent, she’s cool“. He explains to the popular talk show host that he has always felt that laughter is the one thing that elevates a community and he saw it especially in South Africa where people find a way to have fun and laugh even when they are stuck in poverty and oppression.

Ellen, who is pretty funny herself, went on to congratulate Trevor Noah for having landed the hosting job on The Daily Show after only being on the US comedy scene for such a small amount of time:
You’re so funny. And I can’t believe this, you were really just a stand-up. You had only been on [TV] a couple of times. Well, you’re doing a great job.
Many people were worried about Trevor Noah as the new host of The Daily Show, especially because of Jon Stewart’s legacy. However, the South African comedian has been killing it and calls the experience “mind-blowing“.
