We sat down with Joe Kruger, Xbox South Africa’s Marketing Manager at rAge over the past weekend. We had a chat about Xbox One in SA, and what is in store for gamers in the upcoming months. He confirmed that we in SA will be getting a few new bundles including the 1TB Rise of the Tomb Raider Bundle, and the Xbox One Elite Bundle that includes a 1TB SSD Drive, and an Elite Controller, as well as the Xbox One Fallout 4 bundle. He also gave some facts about the new Xbox One UI.

The Xbox One received a permanent price drop a few months ago. How have the local consumers reacted this?

We have definitely seen an increase in interest and with the games line-up that we are currently seeing in the next few months following into next year, there is more incentive to game on an Xbox One.

With the festive season approaching, I saw Microsoft reveal some great new bundles. The Rise of the Tomb Raider 1TB bundle, and the Fallout 4 bundle. Will we be getting any of these in SA?

Yes, I can confirm that we will be getting the Fallout 4 bundle. I can confirm the Holiday Value Bundle, which includes Gears of War Ultimate Edition, Rare Replay, and Ori and the Blind Forest. I can also confirm the 1TB Rise of the Tomb Raider bundle that comes with Tomb Raider Definitive Edition.

So the Fallout 4 bundle will include a copy of Fallout 4 on Xbox One, and Fallout 3 on Xbox 360 which will be playable thanks to backwards compatibility.

What are the best new social features of the Xbox One’s new UI?

So what the UI actually did was instead of building upon menu on menu, they got if the layers and made it easier for people to navigate. When a user gets onto the Xbox you can jump into the social aspect of the console by simply pressing “left” on the D-Pad. Here you will find the social page, so all your live-feed activities, and y9ur friend’s current activities will be shown here.  It has all been moved onto the main page so you don’t need to dig deeper and deeper to get to what you are looking for.

You want to start a party chat, you just press “left” on the D-Pad and it opens up the party chat menu. It has been stripped from all its layers. We really went back to what made Xbox Live so successful and created an easy-to-use UI.

Let us chat about Cross Buy? How will the process work when a game is released that works n both Windows 10 and Xbox One?

Some titles will work on both Windows 10 and Xbox One so when you purchase it on the Marketplace or on disc, you will get access to it across both platforms. So no matter if you are running Windows 10 PC or an Xbox One you will own the game. Not all games will work like that, and it is up to the developer to decide if they want to make this possible. Cross Play is a massive launch for us too as it allows console players and PC players to merge into one market, and no one has been able to do this yet. The ability to put them on one server at the same time and enable them to play the same games.
