The Astro gaming headset range was never available in SA, you would have had to import them at higher prices, and wait forever to get them, not to mention the lack of local support. Well, Megarom have now teamed up with Astro to bring the entire range of gaming headsets and amps to SA. Lets take a look at some of these bad boys.

Astro Mixamp Pro

The Mixamp Pro give you the ability to control your audio experience while gaming. You can adjust your voice and game volume, choose from four carefully designed equalizer modes and stream your audio directly to a different output when streaming games and recording gameplay. The Mixamp pro lets you connect other Mixamps together s you do not need to create chat parties with fellow Mixamp owners for lag-free gaming sessions.


The Mixamp pro connects directly to your PS4 or PS3 via optical out, it then outputs Dolby Digital 7.1 directly to your headset for the best surround sound audio experience. The Astro Mixamp pro is available for R1999. standalone, it is also available as a bundle with the Astro A40.

Astro A40 Gaming Headset


The Astro A40 Gaming Headset is the wired headset in the range and it is fully customizable. You see the Astro A40s support mod kits which have been created just for the device. These mod kits change the way the headset looks and even sounds. For example, the standard ear cushioning on the Astro A40 is foam. You then get the Call of Duty: Black Ops III mod kit that comes with leather ear cushions that provide noise isolation compared to the foam versions. Not only do these mod kits provide better functionality, they also look great too.


You can buy the Astro A40 headset bundled with the Mixamp pro for R3999, the mod kits retail for R999, and as of now, there are 2 md kits available, a Call of Duty: Black Ops III, and a green mod kit. The headset comes in black, white, and there are variations like a grey and orange, and a grey and blue. The headset also ships in a model for Xbox One, and a model that supports PS4, PS3, PC, and Mac.

Astro A50 Gaming Headset


The top of the range A50 headset is the wireless of the range. The device uses state of the art wireless 5.8GHz technology as well as a noise cancellation mic to avoid any background sound getting into your chat party. This model is not customizable but makes up for it in features. It has a built-in battery and 3 EQ modes that are designed to suit any game.

The Astro A50 Gaming Headset retails for R4499 and is the top of the range. We will have a comparison on the two A40 and A50 soon.

These are just a few of the different variations in the range. For each model there is a different colour scheme and shade available. The one above is the Halo 5: Guardians model that comes with a REQ pack code for in game. It also looks like it was modelled right off Master Chief’s helmet.
