The genius behind numerous franchise favourites like Star Wars, George Lucas sat down and explained to Vanity Fair why he didn’t direct the new movie as well as what he thinks of The Force Awakens.

The creator of beloved characters like Luke Skywalker, Yoda, Chewbacca, Obi-Wan Kenobi and R2D2 declares jokingly that if he could be any Star Wars character he would be Jar Jar Binks. Meesa thinks George Lucas is moi moi funny.

The famous director explains the pressure he felt to make certain movies a specific way and the criticism he faced while making such smash hits. He elaborates about starting off making experimental movies and wants to go back to making such movies, so we won’t see him returning to direct another Star Wars movies any time soon.

We still don’t have a straight answer about what happens to Darth Vader‘s grandchildren, so we’ll have to wait and see what Star Wars: The Force Awakens has in store for us when it officially hits cinemas on 18 December 2015.

Directed by J.J. Abrahams, The Force Awakens takes place 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi. The original cast members consisting of Harrison Ford as Han Solo, Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia and Mark Hamil as Luke Skywalker return in the new movie and are joined by new cast members John Boyega as Finn, Daisy Ridley as Rey and Adam Driver as Kylo Ren.
