So you may have heard about a little movie hitting cinemas on 18 December 2015 called Star Wars: The Force Awakens. If you haven’t then YOU CAN’T SIT WITH US! New character posters have been released for the upcoming seventh instalment in the highly popular Star Wars movies franchise.

Han Solo played by Harrison FordLuke Skywalker 1

Princess Leia played by Carrie Fisher
Luke Skywalker 2

Rey played by Daisy Ridley
Luke Skywalker 3

Finn portrayed by John Boyega Luke Skywalker 4

Kylo Ren played by Adam DriverLuke Skywalker 6

The posters are really something to behold and come after a whole bunch of teamsters, a trailer and the final poster was released a while back. Finn is by far my new favourite character and Rey is also a character I am excited to watch. Aside from all of this promotional material being really, really cool, they have another thing in common: none of the feature Mark Hamil’s character from the original trilogy, Luke Skywalker.

The original poster boy for Star Wars, Luke Skywalker is definitely in the movie as it has been confirmed that the three original cast members, namely Mark Hamil, Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) and Harrison Ford (Han Solo), will be returning to the new movie. And we’ve seen lots of Leia and Han, as well as Chewbacca, C3-PO and R2-D2.

So where the hell is Luke? J.J. Abrahams is notorious for this kind of teasing behaviour. Luke Skywalker and the other original characters may also be left out of promotional material because Disney is paving a way for a new generation of Star Wars characters and stories. Whichever way you look at it, Hamil, Fisher and Ford won’t live forever and Disney is surely looking for ways to extend the reach of the Star Wars brand to younger generations and ensure that the story can continue without the original cast members and characters.
