With Fallout 4 being the only game in our consoles at the moment, we thought that this week’s Games to play this Weekend we’d showcase the best of the best in the whole end of the world scenarios. These post-apocalyptic games are the best around when you are looking for a way to escape to a world left in.
Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition
Recently re-released on the Xbox One, PS4, and PC, Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition showcases the game in all its glory in full 1080p, 60fps. The game is set in the distant future where the war between heaven and hell has left earth scorned and unrecognisable. You play as Death, one of the four horseman of the apocalypse who has set out to find his brother War, who has been wrongfully accused of crimes against the council.
Although the game is not set on Earth alone, you will get to see some rather pretty landscapes as Death explores the deserts and jungles of planets all over our solar system, which obviously have been left in ruin.
Fallout 4 – PC, PS4, Xbox One
Fallout 4 is set in Boston in 2077, 200 years after the nuclear war which ravished humanity and crushed all life. For some, they were lucky enough to head into a Vault to seek cover and have a good old nap in cyro-sleep until the war ended. Your character now has awoken in a world completely different from what they once knew.
Using your Wasteland survival skills you now venture forth into the Wasteland and try to overcome the obstacle that you face now that the world is full of danger, raiders and creatures that did not take well to the nuclear fallout
Mad Max – PC, PS4, Xbox One
We reviewed Mad Max a few weeks ago and we thought it was pretty great. It kind of makes you feel right at home right now in South Africa as we have no water, the air is full of dust, and the sun feels like the top of a stove. Mad Max however has something we don’t have, a gigantic wasteland to explore with an awesome car that you can build from the ground up, oh and crazed mercenaries that want to knock your head off.
Mad Max is the perfect balance between high-octane action and vehicle combat, set in a rather well-imagined post-apocalyptic open world, where you have hundreds of things to do and see while trying to reclaim the land from the tribes that hold it.
Wasteland 2 – PC, Xbox One
From the Producer of the original Fallout comes Wasteland 2, the sequel to the first-ever post-apocalyptic computer RPG. Wasteland 2 merges the classic top down Fallout with some Diablo RPG elements, and the tactical gameplay seen in XCOM.
The Wasteland’s hellish landscape is waiting for you to make your mark… or die trying. With over 80 hours of gameplay, you will deck out your Desert Ranger squad with the most devastating weaponry this side of the fallout zone, test the limits of your strategy skills, and bring justice to the wasteland.
State of Decay: Year One Survival Edition – PC, Xbox One
Fully remastered in stunning 1080p. New missions, weapons, and extra content, along with improved lighting, textures, animations and combat mechanics, will pull you even deeper into the post-outbreak world of State of Decay.
The game is a sandbox RPG inspired survival experience where you have to firstly survive, and secondly, try to rebuild settlements in order to improve your chance of surviving. Every action you take and decision you make, affects the people around you, so you need to trust no one, and make the right choice.
