It seems that there is no stopping the PS4 as it rolls into the festive season with a rather intimidating sales record.
According to Sony, the PS4 has surpassed 30 million units sold as of 22 November 2015. It has been just 2 years since the console released back in 2013 which makes 30 million a pretty high number for Sony.
To put it into perspective, the original PlayStation took 3 years and 2 months to reach 30 million units sold. The PlayStation 2 on the other hand took 2 years and 2 months, which makes the PS4 the fastest selling console in PlayStation history.
PS4 has demonstrated faster growth than any other console in PS history, and we will continue to deliver PS4 to as many gamers as possible. The current market environment is different from that of the PS2 era, and we think it is important to expand the PS4 business through disc and network-based entertainment offerings that increase user engagement.
With the PS4 reaching new sales records, the PlayStation Network has been the busiest it has ever been. Although Sony failed to comments on the latest stats, the last time they revealed PSN users, it was sitting on 10.9 million at the end of January 2015. This was up from the 7.9 million recorded at the end of September 2014.
Network sales increased by more than 50% year-on-year, and we recorded the highest monthly sales in September in the business’ history.
As we enter the busiest retail month of the year, we will surely see these number reaching new heights.
