It seems that if you have poor security on your confidential information, you might be at risk of cyber attacks. This is according to cyber security firm Kaspersky Lab who has been tracking the number of attacks through its antivirus network. Things are not looking good for companies and general internet users in South Africa.
Kaspersky Lab stated that
These statistics state that the number of attacks on South Africa increased from 25 million in all 2014 to 81.6 million in 2015, until mid-November
This is all due to the increase in the amount of people using the Internet in SA. Not only is your personal information at risk if you do not take the correct precautions to protect your security detail, banking information is at risk too.
Kaspersky Lab points out that these attacks on South Africa are extreme compared to other regions.
While this could be considered as a result of accelerated IT and internet adoption growth in the market, it is also an alert to users and companies about the increased interest of cyber criminals in South African assets.
Companies are urged to investigate the slightest hint of data leaks to reduce security threats. The same goes for general Internet users as they might be easy targets for cyber crime.
