So who will portray the beloved (but now grown up) Boy Who Lived and his two best friends, Ron and Hermione?
- Jamie Parker will be portraying Harry Potter,
- Noma Dumezweni will be portraying Hermione Granger; and
- Paul Thornley will be playing the part of Ron Weasley.
This is what J.K. Rowling had to say about the choice in actors:
I’m so excited with the choice of casting for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. I can’t wait to see Jamie, Noma and Paul bring the adult Harry, Hermione and Ron to life on stage next summer.
The play is set in two parts and will feature a cast of over 30 actors, taking place right after the last story ended where Harry drops James Sirius and Albus Severus off at Platform 9 3/4.
The play will explore what Harry‘s life has been like after he defeated Lord Voldermort and where he now has a family and a job at the Ministry of Magic. The play was written by Jack Thorne in collaboration with J.K. Rowling and is directed by John Tiffany.
It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children.
While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.
The two part play will have its official world premier on 30 June 2016 and will be showing at London’s West End.
