Co-founder and CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, and his wife Priscilla Chan have vowed to donate 99% of their shares in Facebook following the birth of their daughter, Max.
They won’t donate the estimated $45 billion holdings all at once to charitable causes, but rather promises to do so over the course of their life-times.
Mark and Priscilla welcomed their first child into the world and made the promise to donate their holdings in Facebook in an open letter Mark wrote. He posted the letter to Facebook along with a sweet family photo.
In the letter, Mark explains that “like all parents, we want you to grow up in a world better than ours today“.
The powerful pair haven’t released any details as to how the money will be spent and we’ll have to wait and see as their charitable plans unfold. But he does point out that their efforts will be focused on advancing human potential and promoting equality.
He sweetly ends off the letter by devoting their charitable efforts towards leaving the world a better place for their daughter as well as all children of the world.
Other celebrities and philanthropists like Melinda Gates, Shakira and Arnold Schwarzenegger have congratulated the pair on their daughter and have thanked them for their commitment to making the world a better place.
