We love Apple rumours, especially when they point to new devices that might release in the year ahead. The latest rumour points to Apple releasing a new iPhone 5 Special Edition. Yes, we know we are headed into the iPhone 7 era soon, but this latest rumour could not be ignored.
9t05Mac reports that the upcoming smaller iteration of the iPhone will be the iPhone 5, but known as the iPhone 5SE, “SE” meaning Special Edition. The phone will bring back the 4-inch screen for users who are uncomfortable with the larger screen sizes of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The device will also include new hardware upgrades. The rumoured iPhone 5SE will bare the same curved-edge design that is present in the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S range. So if rumours are correct, it will basically be a smaller iPhone 6.
The iPhone 5SE will include the Apple A8 processor, an 8 megapixel rear camera, a 1.2 megapixel front-facing camera, Apple Play, and more. There are also reports that claim the device will include some of the iPhone 6s’s biggest hardware features like Bluetooth 4.2, voice over LTE, 802.11ac WiFi, and Live Photos. This could point to 3D Touch support on the device, but this is still unclear.
The device is said to be unveiled in March and replace the iPhone 5S completely. This could also point to the reveal of the Apple Watch 2 which we said would be revealed around the same time, and released in early April. Do not expect an iPhone 7 anytime soon as Apple normally release their new flagship device in late October.
