If you’re keen to get your hands (or head) on the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset then you can preorder yours from tomorrow (06 January 2016) at 08:00am Pacific Time.
Preorders for the Oculus Rift come bundled with Lucky’s Tale by Playful and Eve: Valkyrie by CCP for free.
Lucky’s Tale was made specifically for VR and is an Oculus Studio title, which hopefully means that it will be running as smoothly as possible. Palmer describes the game as:
Lucky’s Tale delivers on everything you want in a next-generation VR game – it’s thrilling, full of adventure, and incredibly fun to play.
Not much more details were revealed on the blog post which announced that preorders will be opened. Oculus didn’t mention a price or shipping date. Oculus founder and CEO Palmer Luckey will be answering our questions on Wednesday (06 January 2016) during a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything).
Many are dubbing 2016 as the year of virtual reality as the technology has largely been confined to research labs and few consumers have been able to really get into it.
The Oculus Rift joins Google’s Cardboard and Samsung’s Gear as the VR headsets currently on the market for consumers and we’re excited to see more players join the game. SONY and HTC are both rumoured to be releasing VR headsets this year as well.
The announcement of the preorders for the Rift comes days after Oculus announced the delay of its Touch controllers to later in 2016. These Touch controllers are accessory gadgets to the Oculus Rift and will be used for hand gestures in a virtual reality world.
