Despite being released back in October 2015, only 1.2% of Android devices are running the new operating system, dubbed Marshmallow.
The Android 6.0 Marshmallow update is getting a slow adoption and the older operating system versions are preferred by people who use Android devices. The previous three versions of the operating system are still dominating the majority of devices that run Android:
- Jelly Bean – 23%;
- KitKat – 35.5%; and
- Lollipop – 34.1%.
These figures come from Google itself. The stats were collected from users who visited the Google Play Store using any Android devices (tablets and smartphones). The user behaviour was monitored over a 7-day period which ended on 01 February 2016.
