No you aren’t having flashbacks from your childhood, a Power Rangers movie is officially in the works and actors are slowly but surely being casted into the different roles of Rangers and villains alike.
Dean Israelite is set to direct this highly anticipated movie and surprisingly Elizabeth Banks has been casted as villain, Rita Repulsa.

This is what the original Rita Repulsa looked liked and based on Banks’s look in The Hunger Games franchise, she will rock at this role:
This casting comes as quite the surprise as Banks joins a cast of relatively unknown newcomers who will portray the roles of the teenage Power Rangers:
- Naomi Scott as The Pink Ranger;
- RJ Cyler as The Blue Ranger;
- Becky Gomez as The Yellow Ranger
- Ludy Lin as The Black Ranger and
- Dacre Montgomery The Red Ranger.
The screenplay was written by Zack and Ashley Miller who worked on screenplays for mega movies like X-Men: First Class and Thor and they describe the reboot to be “a modern reinvention of the long-running franchise“. And what a long run it has been; Haim Saban’s The Power Rangers originally appeared in 1993 when Mighty Morphin Power Rangers debuted.
The franchise has gone through many changes over the years, sometimes not quite hitting the mark like Power Rangers Wild Force to name one. On top of that, the 1995 and 1997 movies, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie and Turbo: A Power Ranger Movie weren’t received well. But it has remained a favourite regardless and the franchise has garnered many devoted fans over the years, so the new reboot is sure to be scrutinised relentlessly.
The reboot will be directed by Dean Isrealite and will premier sometime in 2017.
