After almost 10 years J.K. Rowling is publishing a brand new Harry Potter book. Sort of.
It’s no secret that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is being released this year as a play. Harry, Ron and Hermoine has even been casted, the ticket sales have been opened and the basic plot for the two part play has been released. But in a very surprising and welcoming twist the author of the very popular Harry Potter books has announced that she will be publishing the script for Harry Potter and the Curse Child. The script will be released in print and ebook format, which means that anyone, anywhere in the world will be able to enjoy the play.
The play will debut in July in London’s West End. The famous Harry Potter will be portrayed by Jamie Parker, his best pal Ron Weasley will be played by Paul Thornley and Noma Dumezweni will be Hermoine Granger. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child takes place nineteen years after the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which ended with Harry Potter famously sending his (reluctant) son Albus Severus off to Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardy.
This is really exciting news for magical fans around the world as many won’t be able to go see Harry Potter and the Curse Child. At least not until the sequel play is licensed to be performed in other countries and even then a book is way more accessible than a play for most people.
Next year will also mark the twentieth anniversary of when the first book in the popular magical franchise, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was published in the UK. To mark this celebration four special editions of the first book will be published – one for every Hogwarts house. New versions of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, The Tales of Beedle the Bard and Quidditch Through the Ages will also be released. Fans can also expect some new content from J.K. Rowling in 2017, but no word as to what this could be.
