It’s been a few months since the highly popular and successful new generation of Star Wars, The Force Awakens took over cinemas. Now the next instalment, Star Wars Episode VIII has entered production. This means that the promotional material for the 8th movie in the mega franchise will soon be released and we can see what the new movie will all be about.

So far we know the following:

Based on the production announcement, we can guess that Luke Skywalker (reprised by Mark Hamil) and new and awesome character, Rey (portrayed by Daisy Ridley) will have big roles in Star Wars Episode VIII. And we can also guess that the next movie will pick up right where The Force Awakens left us – with Rey traveling to some remote island to ask Luke to train her and show her the ways of the Force.

We also know that rogue Stormtrooper, Finn (portrayed by John Boyega) and pilot Poe Dameron (portrayed by Oscar Isaac) will be back as well. We have confirmation that the following characters will also return:

  • Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher);
  • Kylo Ren (Adam Driver);
  • Maz (Lupita Nyong’o);
  • Hux (Domhnall Gleeson);
  • C3PO (Anthony Daniels);
  • Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie); and
  • Snoke (Andy Serkis).

New cast members include Oscar winner Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran.

The movie was written and will be directed by Rian Johnson and is schedule for release on 17 December 2017.
