eSports have always taken the back seat in South Africa on television. We would often get to see badly reported on coverage, which features  the wrong details in a half-hearted attempt to show something. This is all about change as SuperSport will now air eSport championships on DStv.

Right now this airing of content is exclusive to the IEM World Championship, where 10 different countries compete for their share of $500,000. The highlights of the event will be streamed on SuperSport, running from Tuesday 8 March to Wednesday 22 March. The full schedule is below:

This is just the beginning as we are sure SuperSport will continue to provide coverage for these big eSport events in future, given the fantastic feedback it has received due to this announcement. Earlier this year Telkom also announced that it invested R1 million into its DGL league, which it launched for 2016. This just goes to show how much eSports is growing in SA, and that there is so much potential for players and gamers alike to get involved.
