Sony is known for many different products and has become a strong force to be reckoned with in the gaming market specifically.


Sony joins Nintendo to enter the mobile market after focusing on the console gaming market. This comes as no surprise as the mobile gaming market is estimated to be worth $35 billion by the end of 2016 according to Newzoo. Sony is determined to stay on top of its game and has tried to dominate most of the gaming sectors including virtual reality and now mobile gaming as well.

The company announced that it will be taking on the mobile gaming market with the launch of the a new company called ForwardWorks. This new company was formed to develop and launch of mobile games. The new company will be based in Paris and will be developing games for devices running on iOS and Android. In the official statement ForwardWorks is described as a “a new company that is aimed to deploy new services toward the ever-expanding smart device market”.

ForwardWorks will leverage the intellectual property of the numerous PlayStation® dedicated software titles and its gaming characters as well as the knowledge and know-how of gaming development expertise which was acquired over the years with PlayStation® business to provide gaming application optimized for smart devices including smartphones to users in Japan and Asia. The company will aim to deliver users with opportunity to casually enjoy full-fledged game titles in the new filed of the smart device market.

In another new move, Sony is also officially changing its name from Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. to Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc. from 01 April 2016.
