Turn-by-turn navigation app, Waze, has introduced a new update to its iOS app that could help users arrive at their destinations on time.

Planned Drives by Waze will be automatically added to this free iOS app when you update your version to the new 4.3 version. All you need to do is enter the time, date and your destination and Waze will alert you as to what would be the best time to leave your current destination to arrive at your entered destination. If your drive is a few days away you’re able to set up a reminder that will prompt you to leave to ensure you still arrive on time.

As Waze provides you with traffic feedback based on a peer-to-peer system, the updated version will be able to get you on time more often and allow you to set an alert for future events.

Here’s how:

Open Waze on your iOS device > Menu > Enter your arrival address > Tap on the Waze ETA panel > Tap on the Planned Drives icon in the bottom-left corner of the screen.

You will now be presented with a Planned Drives screen which will give you feedback on the peak traffic hours along the route you want to take, shows expected traffic conditions based on smart algorithms, aggregated traffic history and a predictive analysis.

You can further take advantage of this new feature by setting up your sharing permissions:

  • Grant Waze access to your Calendar and/or Facebook so appointments and Facebook Events automatically become Planned Drives
  • Enable reminder capabilities in your phone’s settings. Suggested departure times and ETAs may change closer to your drive time as real-time traffic is added in
  • Once in the car, use Waze to send your ETA to friends and family, alerting that you’re on the way and taking the guesswork out of your arrival time
