The Acer Aspire R13 is an extremely powerful little device with a tablet/laptop mode which helps it be more versatile. Here are a few things that we found most made the most out of the design of the device:
Fast Boot Up
The Acer Aspire R13 boots up to full Windows 10 desktop mode in just under 10 seconds. This is thanks to the device’s 256GB Solid State Drive (SSD), which provides a lightning fast start up time. Opening up programs and apps is extremely fast thanks to the SSD too as it helps improve disk read/write speed. The 8GB of built-in RAM keeps the device on top of its game while handling multiple apps. Having YouTube, Photoshop and a video editor open at the same time, proved to be no issue for the device.
Once you get into the swing of flipping the device’s screen up and inwards to turn it into a tablet, it becomes second nature. The device has 6 specific stance modes:
- Laptop – The standard keyboard and screen setup;
- Ezel – Mimics an art ezel design for easy drawing and screen viewing;
- Stand – Great if you want tablet mode, but don’t want it to be flat on the table;
- Pad – If you want the tablet mode, which mimics a standard tablet design;
- Tent – For a slimmer viewing experience without the laptop being flat;
- Display – Lets you flip the device so you can enjoy the screen in a book form.
Watching TV shows was fantastic in the Tent mode, while using the Display mode was most ideal for the kitchen while trying out new recipes off the net. Tablet mode was the best for casual web surfing on the couch, without the need for a trackpad.
All this again is thanks to the device’s great hardware which makes it all come together flawlessly. The stylus works great with the touch screen and helps when we need to sign NDAs and other documents. It also helps that the device is lightweight so it is easy to carry around. It comes with a carry bag to protect it when you are not using it.
Great for kids
The device’s tablet mode lets you take advantage of all the Windows 10 games, some of which are directed at kids. This is a great way to get your youngsters to sit down and play some games. There are also tons of educational apps on the store which you can download and teach them to play.
Reasonable Battery Life
The battery life of the Aspire R13 is somewhat decent. Working on the device provides a solid 5-6 hour run with 25% brightness. There is also a Acer Power Save mode which reduces the device’s power and increases its battery life. We have found that working on the device provides an energy efficient environment rather than booting up a gaming rig which we usually make use of.
So far our experience with the Acer Aspire R13 has been great. We are getting work done faster and are loving the portability and versatility of the device. The Acer Aspire R13 has managed to find a way into almost every activity we have found ourselves in. All we have done is take the device with us wherever we have gone, and somehow the need for a laptop or tablet has always arisen, or we have managed to find a way to make use of it.
