Although we have not seen any sort of sequel to the 2009 3D smash hit Avatar until now, we can expect the next couple of years to be crammed full of them. James Cameron has revealed than he plans on releasing four sequels to the original film by 2023.
James Cameron plans on making Avatar a “[i]t’s going to be a true epic saga that’s told in this rich and complex world“. The filmmaker revealed that he will be expanding the world of Avatar with a Disney theme park attraction, and a comic book series created by Dark Horse Comics. The movies on the other hand have been carefully created by a screenwriting super-team. The first sequel is set for release in December 2018. The next few Avatar sequels will then release in 2020, 2022, and 2023.
That means we have some time to wait to fully experience the Avatar sequels which James Cameron has planned for us. Although he does have some stiff competition with the new Star Wars generation rolling out around the same period. In the mean time, reminisce back to the 2009 movie’s trailer:
