Not a favourite amongst fans of the franchise, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was intended to be a rival of Indiana Jones back in 2008, which many felt wasn’t achieved. The new movie will see Harrison Ford return to reprise his iconic role of archaeologist Doctor Henry “Indiana” Jones Jr. Steven Spielberg is set to return to direct the movie.

Confirmation that Indiana Jones 5 will be a sequel to Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull comes from the franchise’s producer, Frank Marshall who was speaking to media at CinemaCom. Stewart went on to confirm that the franchise would never replace Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones like the James Bond franchise saying that:

It’s all about the story. I think both in the ‘Jason Bourne’ series and on ‘Indiana Jones,’ we are not going to do the Bond thing. We think those characters are iconic, and those are the only actors who can play that.

The next instalment in the Indiana Jones franchise is set for release in July 2019 so there is still plenty of time for more updates and exciting news for the new movie.
